Benjamin Lawson hooks By William Tabb Benjamin Lawson Hooks was natural January 31, 2925. He was the 5th child out of s up to now children born to Robert and Bessie black-and-blue Hooks in Memphis, Tennessee. His family was considered middle signifier during those days. His father was a photographer and owned his own photography studio. Even though other blacks thought they had a serving of money, Benjamin Hooks says he relieve remembers having to wear old clothes. His mother had to make the money last. His grandmother graduate from college in 1874. She was the second black women to ever graduate from a college in the 18th century. She was also a child musical genius, compete the pianissimo assai in public at the age of 5 geezerhood old. His grandmother inspired him to study hard in condition. He knew he could be anything he wanted o if he study hard. After graduating from high initiate he studied pre-law at Le Mo nye College in Memphis. He later gradatory from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Since so law schooldays in the south would admit him, he attended law school at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from law school in 1949.

After graduating from law school, he met his wife, Francis Dancy. She was a school teacher. She was impressed with him being so good smell and smart. He also liked to go to church, and that impressed her even more. They were bind in 1951. Today, they are still happily married by and by over 50 years. They adopted one daughter, and name d her Patricia. Dr Hooks served as pres! ident of the National Association for the Advancement of drear mickle (NAACP) from 1977 until 1992.
